Our Story

Exotic Birds by Fran, Inc. in Cypress, California is actually the first original Omars Exotic Birds store opened in August, 1994. In 1997, Fran and Omar pursued separate paths and the store became Omars Exotic Birds by Fran, Inc., also known as Exotic Birds by Fran. The main mission of the store hasnt changed: Frans focus is to help educate and encourage her clients to care for and love their feathered family members in the best way they can. In addition, Fran prides herself on offering a wide assortment of domestic, hand-raised babies to choose from. Probably more rewarding for Fran is her dedication to finding suitable homes for older birds that are in need of a new home. Previously-owned birds often adapt easily to a new owner, and are more affordable than a baby bird. In addition to finding a special new pet, at Exotic Birds by Fran you can also schedule a grooming appointment, or make boarding reservations for your feathered friends while you are away on business or pleasure. Whether you are looking for the latest tasty treat for your bird, or a new spacious powder-coated cage, or a play tree, you can find it at Exotic Birds by Fran. While you are there you are likely to meet a cuddly Cockatoo, crazy Caique, or an amazing African Grey. Every visit to Frans is likely to bring a different encounter; even if you did just stop by for some food.

Bird Boarding

Exotic Birds by Fran provides the only boarding “Hotel” for birds! Our hotel is a completely separate facility, with separate plumbing, forced air units, ducting and circulation. We have large cages and in house entertainment! Your birds will enjoy music and movies every day they are at the hotel, and for a special treat we may even serve birdie popcorn! Call the store for rates and availability, and be sure to book a spot for your bird during busy holiday times. Long-term (more than one month) rates are also available. Birds accepted for boarding must have proof of testing for Psittacosis and polyoma. Cockatoos, Greys and Eclectus may need a test for Psittacine Beak and Feather disease if their feathering is poor. All birds purchased from our store have already been screened, so if you purchase a bird from us this has already been done. Be sure to allow two weeks to have your bird tested before your boarding reservation if your bird has not been tested. Birds that were recent purchases from bird marts or other stores may need to wait up to six months before being eligible for boarding at our store.

Grooming at our store is top-notch! All groomers are trained by Fran and must meet strict requirements in order to groom. All birds are handled gently and with love. Groomers will trim your birds’ nails, wings, and file the beak if necessary. Fees range from $8-15, depending on the size of the bird. Please call ahead for an appointment time and bring your own towel.

You will find the freshest custom seed mixtures and traditional seed mixes at the store. Our seed is mixed fresh and rotated on a regular basis, so your bird will eat better, and be healthier. We offer a variety of vitamin supplements, including calcium supplements that can be used on the food or are water soluble. Every bird needs a treat, and we also are proud to offer the finest in healthy snacks for your birds, including Lafeber Nutriberries, Crazy Corn, Beak Appétit, and more. Our California Millet spray is hugely popular: people and birds request it daily.We also have an extensive homeopathic selection of products for birds that are feather-picking, biting, screaming, or anxious. Whether you need a new cage, bowls, perches or toys, you will find everything your parrot needs to be happy and healthy at home.
